On our trip to Much On Demand we learned some of the ins and outs of the production of the show, as well as being in the actual show. The show was created by Moses Znaimer, but is held together by a mass of people, each with very important jobs. The programs based around entertaining the people who live on Pop Culture. MOD also educates the viewer of current news within the media world, and gives the audience a chance to speak their mind. This is all done during live airing, where the VJ's can interpret how they want the show to go, while still following a certain format. They way MOD is presented to the audience is very effective. It entertains with music, jokes from the hosts and makes the viewer feel like they are represented well by the audience. MOD is a very successful show, with many viewers watching. The people who benefit from this show are the creators, Vj's, the viewers and the celebrities that are getting publicity off the show.
I don't believe there is one clear message in MOD. Every show battles different celebrity scandals and current problems in the world. On the other hand, it also is there to simply entertain the viewers, give them peaks into new music, etc. The over all message of the show is sent to teenagers, or the younger generation as a whole. Most older adults would not find this show entertaining, because it doesn't discuss or depict their way of life. The shows hosts are young, vibrate individuals who can relate to the younger viewers. MOD speaks to the younger kids informing them of the latest gossip and problems in media, IE. models not eating enough so they look good. Although the show does send out positive vibes, there are some negative attributes. Like the fact that all the VJs just happen to be 'beautiful' people, which just enhances the portrayal in the media.
MOD caters to the culture involved youth, the problem is they may not think much about what they are saying to these kids. The fact that the audience is all young; shown in real moments, and that there is no definite script for the hosts, makes the show all very real. So maybe the producers should think more about what they want to portray as 'important information'. The show is to entertain, but there still has to be filters for what the easily influenced see.
I have a hard time trying to pin point the actual message of the show. Whether it be that media is prominate in your daily life, or that youths thoughts and lives should be thought about to. The message also could be that their is sought out message, that the audience is to decide what the show means to them as a source of entertainment, gossip, or a learning tool. I don't think the show is bad, yes it highlights some of the worst crazed fans, and sometimes goes over the line of celebrity gossip. It is relatively harmless and defaintly entertaining.
In just getting a sneak peak behind the scenes, you see how much time and effort go into each show and how smoothly it all can go after years of practice. There are alot of technical aspects, but the show is also just about the audience and hosts having fun with media. One question i would like to know is what would happen if something went awry on a show? Or has it ever happened? I could e-mail a participant in the show, etc. or i could just imagine the possibilities.
